Yarina Yao is a fashion tech influencer and the founder of Tech Loves Style, a blog dedicated to technology related to fashion and beauty. Yarina has platforms in both America and China.

Why did you decide to get into the technological side of the beauty and fashion industry?
I lived in one of the top tech cities San Francisco for 4 years and it showed me how amazing technology can change the future of fashion & beauty. By visiting HQs like Google and Facebook, I fell in love with tech. That’s why I decided to dig more into this niche.

Are there different ways you curate your content towards your western social media (IG, Youtube) versus your Chinese social media (Weibo)?
Yes. It depends on the audience. My audience of western social media are mainly from California so I will curate content to fit Cali vibes. Chinese ones are more practical content, like news or fitness related videos. It all depends on their goals of using social media.
与中国社交媒体(微博)相比,西方的社交媒体(IG,Youtube)的内容的方式是否不同?

Are there differences in the ways you interact with your Chinese and international followers?
There’re small differences, such as the languages or slang I use are different towards followers from different countries. I usually do research before I talk to followers so I can know better about each country’s culture and popular events. But I always keep being myself, showing the truest personality to everyone.

What has been your biggest achievement?
I partnered with SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin and went to my first Revolve Awards in Los Angeles last year. As a media partner for SXSW, I helped to create content for the event and promoted them on my platforms to show my audience. At the Revolve Awards, I was invited as an influencer to wear their clothes to help promote their brand. Last year I achieved a lot also learned how to better communicate with people and how to better showcase my work.
您最大的成就是什么?

What impact do you hope to create in the tech, fashion, and beauty industry?
To create something with technology can truly benefit people in the fashion and beauty industry.
Are you hoping to develop your own tech product?
Yes, this is the future goal. They will definitely be fashion related products. I am now collecting inspiration and information. I think it will take some time.

How do you see the tech, fashion, and beauty industry evolving in 10 years?
Tech will be one of the biggest elements in the fashion and beauty industry in the coming 10 years. There will be lots of new technology only designed for fashion and beauty. For example, some service similar to the “see now buy now” service used during fashion weeks will help the fashion industry a lot. Take a look right now, people used to do shopping on the street or at the malls 10 years ago. Now we use our phones.
